Ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes in a designer’s studio?
In this experience, you will be given exclusive access to the collection of studios which make up The Trampery. Situated right in the heart of Hackney's fashion and creative community, the building contains a diverse variety of artistic spaces which house the most talented and creative new designers, handicraft artisans and start-ups in the city. Working in partnership with the London College of Fashion and the local community, this hub of innovation is a must-see for anybody passionate about up-and-coming London designers and looking to gain an insight into their world. Besides getting a feel for the designing environment, in this experience you will also get the chance to speak with the designers themselves directly about fashion and contemporary handicraft in London and see a unique selection of their products which will be available for exclusive purchase.
The tour will include a visit to the studio of Elena Corchero, designer of wearable technology. Using responsibly-sourced materials, her fascinating projects are a line of visibility products which reflect light when placed underneath it, and a collection of jewellery made from unique Albedonite quartz which transform from a milky cream colour to vibrant fuchsia under UV rays. Already well known in the industry, Elena graduated from Central St Martins and has designed for clients including The V&A, the London Olympics and Cadbury. She’s placed in the top 3 Innovators of the Year for Women in Tech, been awarded the UK Young Fashion Entrepreneur Award and even hosted a TED talk upon consumption in society.
We will also visit the studio of Charlie May, founder of her eponymous womenswear label. Driven by her unique approach using her blog Girl A La Mode to digitally increase support, Charlie has grown to international fame in the fashion blogging world and has gained global press recognition for her designs. Showcasing seasonal shows in London Fashion week, Charlie has appeared in Vogue, Elle and Marie Claire, and is currently working as a digital partner on an influential fashion film.
This tour will be organised in conjunction with 1p87, an online boutique celebrating contemporary craftsmanship and artisan skill. The curator of the site will also be available during the experience to share her wisdom upon the unique handcrafted items which she sources.
